Research activity

My research work aims at studying the mobility and transfer of heavy metals in the vadoze zone of anthroposoils like urban soils, soils mixed with dredged sediments.

The role of microbial biofilms and the porous media structure on the sorption/desorption and transfer of heavy metals have been investigated. The research work is carried out both on real multicontaminated soils or « model » media in order to focus on specific interactions. Our aim is to specify the direct role of microbial biofilm on the retention/leaching of metals like zinc, cupper, cadmium or lead and the indirect role through the modification of soil or media structure (aggregation, organic matter evolution, etc…). These experiments require an exhaustive characterization of the biogeochemical properties of the solid phase of porous medium, coupled with a description of the physical properties (porosity, aggregation, hydrodynamic characteristics…).

The concomitant use of geochemical models coupled with transfer models helps us to precise the main interactions occuring in the different scenarios studied.
