/// Available curricula taught through English as a medium of instruction

For non-degree-seeking Exchange students, ENTPE offers 2 pathways available through English as a medium of instruction.
The course catalogue taught through English is designed for Master/Post graduate students only (i.e. Master 1 and Master 2 students).
It is offered in Semester 9 at ENTPE (from September to the end of January).

English-speaking students interested in carrying out an academic mobility at ENTPE may build their learning agreement with the available courses.

/// International admission to ENTPE (excluding partnerships)

Are you an international student wishing to enroll at ENTPE on an international admission basis (i.e. without any partnership with your home institution)? ENTPE will not charge you any application fees.

  1. Register on Campus France's "Études en France" platform to submit your application. We recommend that you contact your nearest Campus France office to help you with this process.
  2. Once your application is complete on Etudes en France, ENTPE will contact you for the parallel application procedure (oral interview).
  3. Once you have been accepted, the pre-consular phase can begin on Etudes en France, with a view to obtaining your visa.

The “Etudes en France” procedure only applies to students living in one of the countries listed on the Etudes en France home page.

If your country of residence is not listed, this means that it is not covered by the “Etudes en France” procedure. In this case, please contact ENTPE directly at  international.student@entpe.fr

/// ENTPE’s training programs

All our degree-seeking programs are taught in French. You must therefore have a minimum B2 level in French.

Bachelor

The Bachelor's degree is taught in French and is accessible after high school and a scientific high school diploma. For international students, admission is only possible for the 1st year, as the 2nd and 3rd years are apprenticeships, and this very specific status is only available to international students who have already spent one year in the French system under student status.

Engineering program

To enter the engineering program, most students need to pass an entrance exam. This takes 2 years of preparatory classes. In addition, admissions are considered on the basis of student records, particularly for international students who are unable to take the competitive entrance exam.
The engineering program lasts 3 years (or 2 years under certain conditions).

>  1st year application

  • Hold a Bachelor (3 years of higher education) or equivalent in one of the following specialties: mechanics, physics, civil engineering, mathematics;
  • Your academic results will be studied on a case-by-case basis according to the different international systems in force;
  • Proof of a B2 level in French and English.

> 2nd year application

  • Hold a MASTER 1 (4 years of higher education) or equivalent in one of the following specialties: mathematics, mechanics, applied mathematics, physics, civil engineering or life and earth sciences;
  • Your academic results will be studied on a case-by-case basis, according to the different international systems in force;
  • Proof of a B2 level in French and English.

/// Information on the system of higher education in France and at ENTPE

The "LMD" system

The French higher education system applies the so-called “LMD” system (Bachelor - Master - Doctorate) in line with the Bologna process, with :

  • Bachelor = 6 semesters = 180 ECTS (after high school diploma)
  • Master = 4 semesters = 120 ECTS (after a Bachelor or equivalent)
  • Doctorate = 6 semesters (after a Master's degree or equivalent)

For more information on French diplomas, the LMD system, and equivalencies, visit the Campus France website.

The French “Grandes Ecoles d'Ingénieurs”, like ENTPE, set high standards and are highly selective at entry.
As a result, these schools generally have smaller student bodies, allowing for greater pedagogical supervision and more individualized support.

When they are accredited by the “CTI” (French Commission for Engineering Titles), Engineering Schools’ programs impose certain graduation requirements, notably a certain level of English.
Detailed conditions can be found in the regulations of the curriculum you are interested in.

The European Credit Transfer System (ECTS)

Within the European Community, the international validation of diplomas and training programs is based on a common credit system known as ECTS (European Credit Transfer System). The ECTS credits obtained can be capitalized and transferred, for example when studying at several different institutions. One ECTS corresponds to 25 to 30 hours of combined class time and personal work.

Types of courses and assessment methods

Classes are taught in a variety of formats:

  • Lectures (CM): theoretical instruction given to the whole class.
  • Practical work (TP): work sessions of variable duration carried out by small groups in laboratories, workshops or in the field.

Subjects are also called “Course Units” (CU) and are grouped into “Teaching Units” (TU). It is the Teaching Unit that carries the validation and therefore the associated ECTS credits. The average of all the CUs that make up the TU, with their possible coefficients, gives the grade for the TU.

Assessment is based on continuous assessment, i.e. there are no final exam sessions, but grading takes place throughout the year, even though many written exams take place at the end of the year.

Assessments can take several forms:

  • Oral questioning on your knowledge
  • Oral defense: oral presentation of a project or report
  • Marked homework
  • Written reports on a project or internship
  • Written final exams on your knowledge
  • Graded practical works in the laboratory or in the field

Each assessment is graded from 0 to 20 (0 being the lowest and 20 the highest). The training program regulations give you the rules to follow to validate your year.

Students who fail to achieve a sufficiently high grade may register for make-up exams at the end of the semester (see the calendar given at the start of the academic year).
